The Whitefish Art Festival evokes memories of warm sunshine on my face, the sizzle of burgers on the grill and great art. It is a fun, festive weekend for visitors and it is free. I used to help run this show and I know that behind the scenes it takes a lot of work and organization. Volunteers spend most of the year preparing for this event so it runs seamlessly. It is one of my favorite art shows and I'm not just saying that because it's in my lovely hometown of Whitefish, MT.
One year someone visited my art booth and said, "It must be fun to be an artist and just hang out at art shows." Gulp. I had to bite my tongue to avoid pointing out that the awning, walls, tables and art don't just magically appear. It's my weight lifting exercise for the week! Then, we always have to be worried about weather. One year at this show it rained and rained and rained until we had rivers running through our tents. It was hard to protect the art because our awnings got saturated and started to leak. Amazingly, the people still came out for the festival and bought art. I guess they couldn't go out on the lake so they were looking for something fun to do. This year when you look at my art booth I hope you'll be surprised and delighted by my newest creations. Happy 4th of July!
