Plein Air Paintout along the Swan River Trail

Posted by Jane Latus Emmert on July 13, 2011 at 10:56 PM

We've had beautiful weather for the "Saddle UP and Paint" plein air paint out in Bigfork, MT, a fundraiser for the Bigfork Museum of Art and History.   I've spent the last two days painting sunlit trails along the beautiful Swan River and then I even used just a palette knife to "play" and experimentally paint a horse.  It would have been perfect if it was a "paint," but it's not.  :)  I'll post the horse picture another day.  I wanted to start with this quiet painting of the Swan River near Bigfork, MT.

Thank you to everyone who walked or biked down the trail and stopped to visit.  I hope you were inspired by all of the incredible artists who are participating in this event.  Remember that you can look at my Upcoming Events or click the link above to learn about the dinner/auction Friday night at Flathead Lake Lodge.

I painted this early in the morning on a portion of the river that was amazingly still with the sky and mountains reflected in the water.  Can't you just hear the robins singing and smell the pines?

Beautiful. It looks a little bit like our lake view in Maine. (Well, okay, the mountains are bigger in Montana.)
